DHS Student & Alumni Network
President's Message from DHS Network President Tom O'Sullivan
December 2007
Hello all,
As 2007 is drawing closer to the end, I can't help but think what this year has brought. For the DHS Student & Alumni Network, this inaugural year was full of incredible growth. The organization, birthed from an idea only two years ago, has now become a highlight of the DHS Science & Technology Directorate. Because of the fantastic guidance of the first Network Leadership Council, the framework is set for DHS Student & Alumni Network to thrive and expand for many years to come. Thank you to all those members of the Leadership Council and work teams whose hard-work and diligence made this possible.
I also want to extend a special "thank-you" to Trent Wakenight. Trent is concluding his appointment as a DHS Visiting Scholar at the end of this year and will be continuing on with his career. Without his devotion, determination, and intelligence, the DHS Student & Alumni Network would not be in the fantastic shape it is today. In working with Trent the past 14 months, I have come to admire his passion for DHS University Programs, and his sincere appreciation for DHS Students, Alumni and their research. I know he will bring success to his next endeavor, as he has here, and we wish him the best of luck! Please take the time to read Trent's farewell in this month's newsletter.
The end of the year is also a time of transition. Starting January 1st, Wendy Schmitz will be taking charge as coordinator of the DHS Network. Wendy has already been an integral part of the leadership team, and I look forward to working with her this upcoming year.
December also marks the end of the appointment term for members of the Leadership Council. That being said, we are looking for new members to help guide the Network this year. Please consider volunteering, whether in a large role by chairing a work team, or in a smaller role as a team member. You can e-mail me directly (tdo@stanford.edu) if you are interested or if you have any questions on time-commitments, etc.
Happy Holidays,
Tom O'Sullivan
07-08 DHS Network President
